Psoriasis is a disease of the skin which is non-infectious and inflammatory. The characteristics of the disease are distinct reddish or erythematous plaques with large and adherent silvery scales. The cause of psoriasis is the abnormally increased proliferation in the layers of the skin due to excessive cell division in the basal layers of the skin. The plaques may cause severe itching. Psoriasis is characterized by silver scales and skin dryness.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for psoriasis and it is a difficult and frustrating condition to treat. However, there are some natural remedies that can be tried at home and have proven to be effective in controlling the symptoms of psoriasis as well as preventing infection.

1. Turmeric

In a glass of hot milk, add a teaspoon of turmeric powder and some honey for sweet taste. Drink this mixture every day for a few weeks. Turmeric powder can also be added to food when cooking. Consumption of turmeric powder helps maintain good health.

Add water to 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on the psoriatic lesions and cover with gauze. Let the paste sit on the skin for the night. Remove the gauze in the morning and rinse the affected area with tepid water. Reapply the paste after a few hours. Repeat this procedure every day until you see satisfactory results.



2. Apple Cider Vinegar

When the flare-ups occur, drink a glass of water two times every day into which you have mixed 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar. This home remedy also benefits overall health since it acts as a detoxifying drink.

In 3 parts of lukewarm water, add 1 part of apple cider vinegar. Dip a clean washcloth in this mixture and apply it to the affected area as a warm compress for 1 minute. Repeat the exercise many times a day, especially when the flare-ups occur.




3. Oatmeal

1.      Fill a bath tub with warm water and add 1 cup of finely-powdered oatmeal to it. When the flare-ups occur, spend 15-20 minutes every day in this bath for relief. After getting out of the bath, rinse your body with tepid water. Pat dry skin with a soft and clean towel. Remember to apply a good lotion generously afterward.


     2.      Take 2 handfuls of rolled oats and wrap it in a muslin cloth. Place the bag of oats in the bath tub and let hot water pour over it. Add some cold water to the bath to make the water temperature tolerable. Squeeze out the contents of the bag of oats. The water turn should turn milky. Climb into the bath tub and relax in this milky water for 10 minutes.

     3.      You can also use the bag of oats as a gentle exfoliating cleanser while you are soaking in the water. After getting out of the bath tub, pat dry your skin with a soft and gentle towel. Apply a luxurious moisturizer. This bath can be made every day when flare-ups occur. Remember to throw the bag of oats away after using it once.



4. Banana Peel

Did you know that the banana peels that we throw away contain vital ingredients that can cure skin disorders? Rub the inner side of a banana peel on the affected part of the skin. You will find relief and the rashes will disappear.


5. Epsom Salt

Fill a bath tub with tepid water and add 2 cups of Epsom salt in it. Soak in this mixture for 15-20 minutes. After getting out of the bath, pat dry your skin with a soft and clean tower. Ensure that you apply a good lotion generously. This procedure can be repeated 2-3 times every week.



6. Baking Soda & Water

To 4 teaspoons of water, add 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Apply this mixture to the affected areas of the skin using a sterilized piece of cotton or a clean cloth. This will prevent infections from occurring. Let the mixture sit on your skin and allow it to dry until it automatically falls off. Application of this mixture will reduce the itchy sensation on the affected areas of the skin.
