6 Colors of Menstrual Blood Reveals Dangerous Changes in Your Body!

Menstrual cycle or more commonly known as 'period' is a natural phenomenon that happens with women every month and lasts for about 6-7 days usually. These are the days when you wish you were a guy!! It is obviously a tough time and nobody else but you know it. During periods women generally get abnormal cramps at any crazy point of time, accompanied with bleeding, stomach disorders and headaches to name a few.

It might have come to your mind that the colour of blood is not the same all the time. You might have also noticed that when blood flows quickly it would be lighter or brighter in shade, also less thick. There are times when most of you have seen black or brown colour during period and then just kept thinking and worrying about what is going wrong. (During periods it is more of a 'oh no!! I am gonna die!!' sort of panic. Let’s be honest, we do that.). Experts say that darker shades usually indicate a slower flow out of your body.

We usually encounter change in shade of colour of blood during different stages of period. It is sometimes bright, sometimes dark; also many women are faced with a condition where they experience bleeding outside the cycle.

We are here to make ourselves aware of the different colours of blood during a period, what they indicate and get rid of this anxiety we have which occurs to us due to the fear of unknown. Also this article would help educate you about when you don’t have to worry and when to get an appointment with your gynaecologist.

1. Pink

This is the normal colour you are likely to see during start or towards the end of your period. But if it occurs during the middle of your cycle, it might be alarming to you as an early sign of pregnancy. Apart from this it may be a result of hormonal disorder or any disease of reproductive organs. So it would be best for you to make a visit to your gynecologist.

2. Dark red

This color is normal too. It just means that blood has enough time to stop inside and darken itself. This colour would be observed during the middle of your period. If the colour is not fading as it usually does or it is bleeding more than usual, it may indicate to you as a spontaneous miscarriage.

You should be worried if you have other problems associated with it, for it can even be a tumour at the worst.

3. Bright

Once again this is a colour you have seen quite a lot during prime days of your period. This colour is observed when you have the toughest day of your period and blood is running rapidly with almost no time to stop and darken. But relax! You don’t have to worry about this one. It is absolutely fine. You should be alarmed if the bleeding lasts longer than a week with the blood becoming pinkish and not fading.

4. Brown-black

This color indicates that the blood has been in the uterus for a long time. Usually this colour is seen in the morning or after a sleep. You need not panic, for this blood is normal but it just stayed inside the womb for a little longer time and that's it. This may seem awkward to you but rest assured it is normal till it is a shade of red. During the first few days of your period, this might happen more often. Towards the end of it, it would reduce slowly and then stop as the period gets over. But beware!! If the colour is approaching anywhere near towards yellow, it can be an infection.
